The Purgly Castle from Sofronea

The

The Purgly Castle from Sofronea, was built in 2 periods of time, the first buildings until 1850 and the second period ended in 1889, the castle having its appearance from nowadays. The main body is built in the ecletic style, inspired by the Huniazi castle from Hunedoara. On the outside the castle has embroidery models, entrances and little towers. The interior of the building has its initial form, being remarked because of its aspect, the reception hall, having wooden bokes on the deck. The access to the reception hall is made by the main entrance from the central body. The living room, the saloon and the big hall, situated on the deck floor are remarked because of their specific ornamentation. The stairs to the first floor and the windows are beautifully made.

The castle is the place where a member of the family Purgly, Madonna Purgly of Jószáshely met Horthy Miklós. They got married on the 22nd of July 1901 in Arad. Her husband became the governor of Hungary on the 1st of March 1920 and occupied this position until the 15th October 1944.

The county council, Daniel Negrea took in 1995 the castle from the state on the name of the Humanitas foundation and renovated the edifice after the original model.
