The Nopcsa Castle from Zam
The Nopcsa from Zam, Hunedoara county, was the property of the Romanian family Nopcea. The most known member of the family was Vasile Nopcea, whose name appeared in the documents as Nopcsa László. He was the Supreme Committee of Hunedoara for 15 years. The castle was used by the family more as a holiday or haunting house, because the residence of the family was in Silvasu de Sus.
The castle was used as a refugee by Vasile Nopcea during the Revolution from 1848-1849. The Baron had an important role during the Revolution, being part of the Meeting from Campul Libertatii, in Blaj, along with the Romanian rullers, where he was chosen as a vice president of the Romanian delegation, presenting to the court from Vienna the demanding of the Romanians from Ardeal. As a result of this event he became disgraced by the Hungarians.
Nowadays the castle hosts the Psychiatric Hospital Zam.
